The history of photography
Camera Obscura
The camera obscura is the natural optical phenomenon (the image) that occurs when an image of a scene at the other side of a screen (or, for instance, a wall) is projected through a small hole in that screen as a reversed and inverted image (left to right and upside down) on a surface opposite to the opening. The surroundings of the projected image have to be relatively dark for the image to be clear, so many historical camera obscura experiments were performed in dark rooms. The Camera obscura was invented by Alhazan and his invention was widely employed by artist in the renaissance period.

To make the Camera obscura is very simple. All you have to do is put a small hole in a box and have the opposite side of the box to the whole made of tracing paper. You then must place a lens in front of the hole and you have a working camera obscura.

Francesca Woodman
Francesca Stern Woodman (April 3, 1958 – January 19, 1981) was an American photographer best known for her black and white pictures featuring either herself or female models. Perhaps most recognised are her ghost like photos created via a slow shutter speed and double exposure, the blurred image creates a sense of movement and urgency. Heavily influenced by Surrealism and Conceptual Art, her work often featured recurring symbolic motifs such as birds, mirrors, and skulls. The artist’s exploration of sexuality and the body is often compared to both Hans Bellmer and Man Ray . Woodman’s work is also characterized by her use of long shutter speed and double exposure, the blurred image creating a sense of movement and urgency.Sadly she died at the age of 22 after a lackluster response to her photography and a failed relationship pushed her into a deep depression. Woodman jumped to her death from a loft window on January 19, 1981 in New York.
